Mathematics

Garratt Park School is committed to raising the standards of numeracy of all of its students, we want our students to be confident and capable in the use of numeracy to support their learning and  in all areas of the curriculum and to acquire the skills necessary to help achieve success in further education, employment and adult life.

Personalised Numeracy Support is delivered to individual students or to small groups with similar needs. It is delivered to all year groups and to students of all ability levels during their math’s lessons.

Students are identified in the following ways:

  • Information from the maths coordinator
  • Class teacher referral
  • Students not achieving their target level in topic tests or exams
  • Parental concern
  • Students who are excelling in Maths.

Tips for parents/carers

As with reading, try to make maths as much fun as possible - games, puzzles and jigsaws are a great way to start. It's also important to show how we use maths skills in our everyday lives and to involve your child in this.

Identifying problems and solving them can also help your child develop maths skills. If you see him or her puzzling over something, talk about the problem and try to work out the solution together.
