Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

Speech and Language therapy is an integral part of Garratt Park School. Our team consists of two full time therapists who run social and communication groups weekly with every class. We also run individual sessions for those who need extra support. We aim to work closely with the Education Team to create a holistic programme for each child that is embedded into the curriculum. For many of the pupils, we focus on functional communication to support them to become more independent, particularly as they move up the school.

If they can’t learn they way we teach, we teach the way they learn O. Ivar Lovaas

The Speech and Language Therapists at Garratt Park School work collaboratively with Class Teachers, Teaching Assistants and other professionals to ensure that any language and communication targets are embedded within the curriculum and are functional for each individual child.

We review and fulfil any Speech and Language Therapy packages of care as outlined on students’ Statements of SEN
